Reading
Reading at home is a wonderful way for children to develop their vocabulary, understanding, and love of stories. We encourage all Year 5 children to read every evening with an adult or older sibling. Sharing a book together helps children explore new ideas, improve their comprehension, and enjoy the magic of a story.
We also invite families to read aloud to their children, even as they grow older. Listening to stories can inspire imagination, strengthen language skills, and create special moments to enjoy together.
Every child will have a reading record to log every book they finish. This is linked to our Pilgrim Reading Challenge, where children can earn a coloured wristband once they reach their reading goal. These achievements are celebrated in our celebration assembly, making reading fun, rewarding, and something to be proud of!
