Luke Pollard MP Visits Breakfast Club

Pilgrim Primary Academy was delighted to welcome local MP Luke Pollard and Mrs Sally Cresswell for a special visit to its thriving Breakfast Club last week.
The visit was a celebration of the school’s involvement in the Department for Education’s Early Adopters scheme, a pilot programme designed to support and expand breakfast provision in schools. Pilgrim Primary Academy has already seen a positive impact from the initiative, which has helped the school to enhance its existing breakfast offering.
Headteacher Mrs Rachael Saim spoke with Mr Pollard and Mrs Cresswell during the visit and highlighted the tangible benefits the scheme has brought to the school community.
“Pilgrim’s Breakfast Club is a huge success,” she explained. “Joining the Early Adopters DFE scheme has further supported our existing club, providing a grant which has allowed us to employ an additional adult each morning, meaning we can now offer Breakfast Club to another 15 children. Some are eligible to attend for free.”
She added, “We are delighted to be part of the Early Adopters scheme. Supporting the DFE pilot has been of benefit to our school, enabling children to be punctual at school, well fed and learning ready.”
The Breakfast Club at Pilgrim Primary Academy plays an important role in the daily routine of many pupils, providing a healthy and nutritious start to the day in a calm and supportive environment. Thanks to the DFE grant, more children are now able to access this valuable resource.
Luke Pollard MP expressed his support for the initiative, praising the school’s commitment to pupil wellbeing and readiness to learn. His visit recognised the critical role breakfast clubs can play in narrowing educational gaps and supporting families.
Pilgrim Primary Academy continues to put children’s needs at the heart of its efforts, ensuring every pupil has the best possible start to each school day.
