Remembrance Day

On Tuesday 11th November the staff and pupils of Pilgrim primary came together to remember all of those who have protected our freedom and sacrificed their lives in wars and conflict, and all those who continue to protect us today.
The children listened respectfully to a short assembly and observed the 2 minutes silence in an exemplary manner.
As part of the day, our Year 2 pupils learnt more about the history of Remembrance Day. They enjoyed talking about their learning with me.
“Poppies were the first flowers to grow on the battlefields after WW1.We worked together to make our own poppies to remember the people that have lost their lives in wars.” Fiona Y2
“Poppies help us to remember people that have died. We have a war memorial on the Hoe to remember the people of Plymouth that died in wartime.” Imelda
“We had a 2-minute silence in assembly to show our respect for people who risk their life to keep people safe.” Aisha & Merhauit
“People sell poppies to raise money for soldiers and the families of people that have died in wars. We sold poppies in our school.” Nelson
It was good to see so many children wearing poppies as another sign of remembrance on Tuesday. Thank you to our lovely Year 6 pupils who gave up their own time to sell poppies to raise money for the Royal British Legion.
